Extension and Outreach to Broader Communities

My extension and outreach program focuses on soil, water, and nutrient conservation at both field and watershed scale to address critical needs for nutrient loss reduction over agricultural landscape. By bridging the gap between national and state nutrient reduction strategies and local farm-level management, I provide my stakeholders with critical evidence-based insights and data-driven tools to improve resource use efficiency, restore water quality, and ensure long-term productivity. Annually, I participate in over 20 extension activities by giving talks on field days, in webinars, workshops, and conferences. I am also generating extension materials (fact sheets, research summaries, and extension publications). The target audiences of my extension program include:

  1. Individual farmers. Through directly working with farmers and sharing my knowledge and building data-driven decision-making support tools, my program informs their decision making on conservation management within or at the edge of their fields.
  2. Farmer groups or commodity group associations. I directly work with these entities for their nutrient and environmental stewardship programs and contribute to their policy advocacy efforts through sharing science-based insights and conducting data-driven analysis.
  3. Crop advisors and conservation specialists, who provide boot-on-the-ground connections and technical support to farmers for their decision making. Through delivering talks at conferences such as Crop Management Conference and providing data and tool support, my work is enhancing their capacity to better serve farmers' needs.
  4. Watershed managers and planners who are developing conservation plans for agricultural watersheds. My work is contributing foundational data layers and tools to support precision conservation.
  5. Public and private conservation groups or entities. My work contributes to their conservation programs focusing on farm and watershed scales through providing scientific and technical support on identifying targeting hotspots areas and most effective suite of best management practices.
  6. Policy makers and government agencies. I am actively engaged with various committees and activities at both State and Federal levels, and my communication of research outputs and scientific discoveries are helping to refine the roadmap for nutrient loss reduction strategies and inform the environmental policies.

Scientific Community Engagement
